Quadracup - Class of 2020
Where are you from?
What’s your daily routine?
I check on my girlfriend to see if she’s awake because I make hella noise when I wake up. I take it easy for the first two hours of the day then I’ll try to link up with someone to make music or just chill.
How would you describe your craft?
Aggressive, I want people to relate to that feeling when there is something just pissing you off. I would say that I’m past that phase, my upcoming music is smooth, the complete opposite.
When do you feel the most creative/What’s the vibe when you’re making music?
For writing, I’m the most inspired right after I wake up but I like to record at night because there is nothing distracting you. When I go to the studio, I don’t mind bringing a few friends but I’m there to record. I like to leave the studio with finished songs. I also love to reach the studio when I’m not the one recording. I get inspired by hearing other artists' records. Sometimes I’ll watch a rapper’s session and think “wow, this guy is really good I should keep him in mind for a feature.”
What did you want to be as a kid?
I wanted to be a circus performer. I went to circus school in elementary, I used to ride unicycles.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?
I would go home, back to Indonesia. I would chill for a bit, turn off my phone and relax.
What’s your favorite song of all time and why?
C.R.E.A.M by Wu-Tang, it’s the first hip hop beat I ever heard. Growing up I was mainly listening to rock and metal. In secondary I was hanging out with people that listened to rap so I used that to catch up a bit. I used to listen to Tupac but he was more of a storyteller, Wu-Tang were more scary/aggressive. That resonated with me.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on this music video entirely made in play dough. I did it in my basement with some friends during quarantine. All these music videos filmed in condos are getting boring. I want to bring something different to the scene in Montreal so even if you don’t like the music at least you can appreciate the video. My album is ready, I’m just waiting for the right time to drop it. There are a lot of important issues going on right now so I’m not in a rush.
